Hull SC twice reduced the deficit through Jordan Clayton and Daniel Currie, but Hull Athletic FC produced a strong second-half display to secure a 6-2 league win.

Hull Sporting Club suffered a difficult afternoon away from home, falling to a 6-2 defeat against Hull Athletic FC at Hull University Grass Pitch #1.

The home side made a fast start and opened the scoring in the 8th minute through Kieran Cook, giving Hull SC an early setback to respond to.

Hull Athletic added a second in the 29th minute through Chris Edmond, putting the Reds under pressure midway through the first half.

Hull SC found a way back into the contest five minutes later, with Jordan Clayton scoring in the 34th minute to reduce the deficit and give the visitors renewed belief before half-time.

But Athletic restored their two-goal advantage shortly after the restart, with Cook scoring his second of the match in the 48th minute to make it 3-1.

Hull SC responded again in the 57th minute through Daniel Currie, bringing the score back to 3-2 and giving the Reds another opportunity to shift the momentum.

We showed moments of response, but not enough control across the full game. At 3-2, we had a chance to settle and build momentum, but we conceded too easily after that. It is a result we have to learn from quickly.

The key spell of the match came after that moment. Athletic struck again in the 61st minute through Michael Farrell, restoring their cushion and putting Hull SC back under pressure.

Michael Hill added a fifth in the 72nd minute before Tom Scarborough completed the scoring in the 84th minute, as the home side finished the match strongly.

For Hull SC, there were moments of response through Clayton and Currie, but the team were unable to sustain control after getting back into the game.

The result was a difficult one for the Reds, who will look to take the lessons from the performance and respond with greater discipline, concentration and resilience in the matches ahead.
